Title I Information

The Purpose of Title I

The purpose of Title I is to help eligible students meet the challenging state standards Lakeland has adopted for all students.

The Title I staff provides systematic, explicit, and direct instruction to students who are identified as below grade level in reading.

Title I services supplement and strengthen the core reading instruction provided in the classroom.  It does not replace classroom instruction.

Eligibility

Students are referred to Title I and/or Extended Reading based on the following criteria:

· Performance on the fall IRI

· Teacher referral

· Identified risk factors

· Previous Title services

Title I Funding

Title I is a federal program, which provides money to school districts around the country based on the number of low income families in the district.

The Lakeland School District uses its Title I funds to pay for extra educational services for children who are at-risk for reading failure.
